In September 2020 the World Health Organization published a detailed guideline about the use of rapid antigen tests. The document offers advice on the potential role of antigen-detecting tests and the need for careful test selection. It also explains in more depth how to interpreted terms like sensitivity, specificity and Ct-values. At the second page of the document there are several recommendations, including that rapid antigen tests with a sensitivity >80% and a specificity >97% can be used to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infections in specific circumstances. Important is that tests should be conducted by healthcare providers in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Future updates will follow with more specific product recommendations.
